25th Anniversary Meeting |
|
Well, it came and went…………. It was an amazing day had by all, coming from as far as Dunedin and Nelson. 140 entries competed in what was a special meet for Rangiora, 25 years on and still thriving. We had many of the original committee members in attendance and they were overwhelmed by the continued success of the club. A special thanks to all those who attended, without you it would not have been a great day. Thanks to the event sponsor Roofing and Spouting Solutions Ltd, your support is always greatly appreciated.
On Sunday 30th September 2007 we will be holding our 25th Anniversary. Ultimately we will have a display of old bikes, photos and more. We encourage all existing and previous members to come along and reminisce on the days of old.
Well its now 14th September and the preparations are well underway. We have received 142 entries for the NQM thus far with novice and novelty riders being able to enter on the day. The cake is ordered and the committee are quietly working away in the background putting the event together.
We have made contact with the club patron and our life members, other than having prior arrangements that they may be able to reschedule it looks possible they will all be there. Here’s hoping.
If you have any information or contact with old members of the sport, please feel free to invite them down. Bring your old school bikes, enter in our Novelty class ($5.00) and your in for a good day.
Hope to see you there.
A LITTLE HISTORY The opening of the club was the initiative of Pete Rollinson our club Patron (now living in Ashburton), a local bike shop owner (Pete’s Cycles). The initiative was to provide the local youth with a facility to partake in a growing sport. One of the first fundraisers was the raffling of a Pantha Stud. The first track officially opened by the then Mayor Mrs D.M. Harris. The track site was eventually found with assistance from Rangiora High School and the A&P Association. The first event on the track was delayed due to wet weather, it was officially opened on 25th Sept 1982 and the event was sponsored by Healing Industries.
The club having its highs and lows, probably at its peak in 1983 held a membership of 110, falling as low as 3 members in 1988 is still thriving today with current membership at 92 and continuing to grow.
We thank all those involved both past and present for your time and efforts to the continued success of our club.
A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALL. |
